Quelle noirceur dans la restitution de l'étrange musique de ce prince assassin, probablement mort de s'être fait trop violemment flagellé par des jeunes hommes payés pour cette besogne... Quelle âpreté dans ces textes alliés aux clairs-obscurs caravagesques d'une musique hyper-expressive, dans laquelle Gesualdo se complaît comme pour mieux se repentir de son odieux forfait. Les frottements harmoniques de ce 6e, et ultime, Livre de Madrigaux sont saisissants, d'autant que La Compagna del Madrigale est d'une intonation parfaite et d'une très bouleversante expression. Ce n'est pas de tout repos, mais cet appel à la mort comme délivrance des tourments terrestres est singulièrement troublant... FH
